LESSON 1 - IN THE BEGINNING

In your Bible, you will read in Genesis 1 that Yahweh made the sky and the land and everything else.

The Earth was dark and cold and there wasn't anything living on it. There were no animals, birds, fish, trees or flowers. There were no boys or girls and there would not have been anything for them to eat if they had been here then.

Then finally Yahweh said, "Let there be light!" and there was light. Yahweh began to change the earth so that things could grow.

Can you just imagine what the earth was like with nothing on it? No trees, no critters, no people, just empty?

Just a little, bitty earth

Yahweh made part of the earth light and he left the other part dark. He called the light part "day" and he called the dark part "night." When Yahweh made the light and the dark that was the first day.

On the second day Yahweh made clean, white clouds high in the sky.

ACTIVITY

Take a plain white sheet of paper. Draw some pretty white clouds in the sky.
Keep your paper--we're going to add to it!

On the third day Yahweh made the water come together in certain places so that there was dry land. Trees, bushes, flowers and grass began to grow. Some plants made fruit and some plants made vegetables.

CONTINUING ACTIVITY

Take your picture of the clouds and add some land (that might be an island), and some water for the ocean. Then add some trees, flowers and bushes. Make it nice and colorful!

On the fourth day, Yahweh made lights in the sky to separate the day from the night.

CONTINUING ACTIVITY

Now, take your picture and add the Sun to make it a pretty daytime picture.

On the fifth day Yahweh made the water fill up with all kinds of fish. There were giant ones like the big whales, and tiny ones that you could hardly see. Yahweh also made the birds and all the other animals.

Can you identify all these critters
that Yahweh made?

Yahweh made the earth and many other kinds of fish, birds, and animals in just five days. There wasn't anyone to take care of those things so Yahweh had to do one more thing. Do you know what that was?

Yahweh made man on the sixth day! littlemanwomanYahweh made the man from the dust of the ground. After Yahweh made him, He knew that the man would be lonely so He made him go to sleep and took one of his ribs and used it to make a woman. The man was called Adam and the woman was called Eve.

Yahweh had been working for six days to make the earth and everything in it. On the seventh day, Yahweh rested. He didn't do any more work. That is what we do on the seventh day. It is the Sabbath. Did you know the Hebrew word for seven is "sabbath"?

Adam and Eve spent their Sabbath with Yahweh. They talked with Him and learned from Him. We also talk with Him when we pray and we, too, learn from Him each Sabbath.

LESSON 1 - ACTIVITIES

There were some activities scattered throughout the Lesson and we pray you did all of them! Below is a Hidden Pictures page to print out, find all Yahweh's critters and color. Maybe Mom or Dad will hang it up for you!
