LESSON 5 - THE TOWER OF BABEL
A long time ago there was a very bad man named Nimrod.
Nimrod was bad because he did not like Yahweh. He wanted to be more important than Yahweh.
One day Nimrod decided to build a big tower. The tower was going to be so big that it would reach up to the clouds.
Nimrod wanted people to like him and treat him the way they should treat Yahweh. He did not want people to even like Yahweh, so he told them that if they would build the tower, they would be better than Yahweh.
You know that Yahweh is the greatest one. No one can be better than Yahweh.
Yahweh knew that if He let the people build the tower, people would think Nimrod was better than Yahweh. This would not be good for the people.
So one day Yahweh caused something to happen that stopped the work on the tower. He caused them to talk in different languages so no one could understand anyone else. Because they didn’t understand each other, they didn’t know what to do. To this day, we still have hundreds of different languages. Yahweh does promises that one day He will restore a pure language to His people.
THINKING CAPS ON! |
Have you been out somewhere, either with your parents shopping or even perhaps in school when you heard someone talking and did not understand a word they said? Maybe you asked Mom or Dad and they told you that person was speaking in Spanish or French. They are other languages. Now just think: If you worked for someone who spoke Spanish, but you only understood English, what kind of problems would you have? |
"Shalom" is Hebrew; do you know what it means in English?/strong> |
The tower was called the tower of Babel because “babel” means “confusion.” We get our English word "babble" from the Hebrew "babel." Because people could not understand each other they could not work together and the tower was never finished.
